Sometimes I wonder why people do what they do. Such is the case with an “unofficial” letter I received about holiday gift giving to building employees from “Fellow Langston Unit Owners.” The letter asks owners to “contribute a suggested amount of $200 towards a lumps sum that will distributed amongst staff members.”
Here are my issues with this:
1. This is not an official letter. It’s from some homeowners who just assumed they know what’s best since “after researching various contribution methods,” they felt their method was the most cost effective.
2. What makes them think owners would “trust” that they would handle the money correctly and distribute the money fairly. Giving all employees the same amount wouldn’t be fair, if that’s their intention. If not, who can trust that they would distribute the gift correctly. Keep in mind the person who they feel deserves more gift does not mean the feeling is mutual. If all the employees get the same amount, then what becomes the incentive for an employee to perform better than another or worse a lazy employee to do better?
Overall, this letter has a tone that assumes “official” when in fact it isn’t. I can’t understand why anyone would distribute a letter like this to all the homeowners. It underestimates owners intelligence and is very misleading.
So please, whoever you “fellow langston unit owners” are, stop putting junk under owners’ doors. We have enough of them, we don’t need more. Furthermore, we don’t need your opinion and senseless research.
Good thing management sent out an official letter regarding gift giving this morning. I wonder if these “fellow langston unit owners” feel dumb now. Hey, I guess that’s what they get for assuming everybody else is stupid regarding holiday gifts for the building staff.
