From Tumbleweeds to Grammys

See how tumbleweeds can be good for ya?

From Tulsa World:

Several were nominated, but two walked out as big winners at last night's Grammy Awards show in Los Angeles. Rock act Kings of Leon includes two Oklahoma-born members, Matthew and Nathan Followill. Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" trumped Beyonce's "Halo" to win record of the year. Beyonce won a record six trophies, as did Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, Eminem and Maxwell, among others. "I'm not going to lie, we're all a little drunk. But we're happy drunks," said Kings of Leon lead singer Caleb Followill. Two of the band's members were born in Oklahoma. The band walked away with three Grammys last night, bringing their total wins to four. They won Record Of The Year, Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and Best Rock Song for the tune “Use Somebody.” The band was also nominated for Song Of The Year for the same tune. Checotah native Carrie Underwood won a fifth Grammy, for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals on the tune “I Told You So” (with Randy Travis). Underwood also was nominated for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “Just A Dream.” Other Oklahomans nominated who didn't win last night included Charlie Wilson (formerly of the Gap Band), Woody Guthrie, Miranda Lambert, Alice in Chains, Brooks & Dunn, Yolanda Kondonassis, Rascal Flatts, Alfre Woodard and Mason Williams, among others. Sunday night, Tulsa Sound icon Leon Russell also performed with the Zac Brown Band, winner of the best new artist award. Zac Brown opened with "America the Beautiful" before bringing out Russell, who played a piano as the band played its hit tune "Chicken Fried."
